Case Study: Adecoagro: From Regenerative Agriculture to Verified Climate Performance

The Challenge
Adecoagro, one of Latin America’s leading food and energy producers, set an ambitious goal: to validate regenerative agriculture outcomes and unlock new environmental value across its large-scale rice and crop systems.
Adecoagro’s rice and crop systems had already embraced regenerative practices—winter cover crops, no‑tillage, and testing of biological alternatives to synthetic pesticides.
But these efforts faced a barrier: without real‑time, scientifically defensible measurement, their climate value remained locked away. Reports built on assumptions and sampling couldn’t withstand scrutiny.
To truly lead, Adecoagro needed a way to transform day‑to‑day agricultural improvements into verified environmental performance.
The Alethia Solution
Alethia deployed its Atmospheric MRV (aMRV) platform, applying Eddy Covariance technology and blockchain-secured validation to measure ecosystem-level carbon flux in real time.
Using Eddy Covariance towers, the system continuously measured the exchange of CO₂ and CH₄ directly from the ecosystem, capturing the full carbon story every 30 minutes.
These high‑frequency measurements were processed and secured, creating a tamper‑proof record of environmental performance.
For the first time, Adecoagro could see a clear, continuous, and credible picture of its climate impact—one aligned with the same methodologies trusted by global climate institutions.
The Results
Within the first year, Alethia established a defensible carbon accounting system across 13,600 hectares of Adecoagro’s operations.
The data not only quantified the environmental benefits of regenerative agriculture, but it also positioned Adecoagro to expand verified climate measurement to more hectares.
For stakeholders, this wasn’t just numbers on a page; it was live, scientifically validated proof of progress, integrated into Adecoagro’s sustainability reporting and ready for auditor review.
Looking Ahead
With its verified cycle in place, Adecoagro is prepared to move beyond reporting into value creation.
The same dataset that validates current performance will underpin future value generation and solidify Adecoagro’s position as a leader in transparent, science‑backed agriculture.
This project is no longer a pilot—it’s a scalable model for credible decarbonization in the agricultural sector.
